This song is definitely one of my favorites off this album. As for “Sdp Interlude”? Snooze fest.īirds also consists of two songs that were released prior to the album’s debut “Pick Up the Phone” and “Wonderful.” Accompanied by Atlanta superstars Young Thug and Quavo, “Pick Up the Phone” has a very bubbly synth that makes the instrumental catchy. “Guidance” has this latin/tropical instrumental that I personally just couldn’t get into. Bryson Tiller is featured on this song and even he couldn’t save this track. Travis really has no business trying to make an R&B track like “First Take” because it was very subpar and boring. I would say for me personally the lowest points on this album were the songs “Sdp Interlude”, “First Take”, and “Guidance.” These songs are easily forgettable. Travis Scott’s rapping on this track is also much better compared to “Way Back.” These three songs prove to be more of the heavy hitters and street anthems off this album. Cudi also provides us with probably the catchiest chorus on the album. “Through the Late Night” really stands out as it features Kid Cudi, one of Travis Scott’s idols and influencers, and his signature humming. These songs showcase why Travis Scott has molded himself into one of Trap’s premiere superstars. The following three songs “Way Back”, “Coordinate”, and “Through the Late Night” all make up for Birds’ ehhh opening. Not to say that this opening was bad, it just didn’t stack up to the intensity of Rodeo’s opening that was very angsty, aggressive, and filled with Travis monologuing about how he has transcended to a rap super star leading the “charge of the young mob.” That was epic. Compared to Rodeo, Birds doesn’t have this epic and ambitious opening that was on “Pornography”, Rodeo’s introduction.
Andre 3000 is also on this track with a verse that is backed by a glitchy instrumental that is very ear catching.
The song eventually transitions to a more gritty beat while Travis raps. “The Ends” starts off with Travis Scott’s infamous auto-tuned singing reminiscent of Kanye West’s voice on 808s and Heartbreak. This is backed by a very dreamlike and haunting instrumental. Travis Scott, hailing from Houston, Texas, is a rapper/record producer who bursted onto the rap scene with his breakthrough album Rodeo and hit single “Antidote.” After a year long hiatus, Travis Scott returned at the end of summer 2016 to release his highly anticipated project Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight.īirds begins with a weaker introduction compared to Rodeo.
